BSLA Ukraine: Workshop in Ukrainian city Dnipropetrovs’k
On April 25, 2012, 45 Dnipropetrovs’k librarians participated in the workshop on library associations’ role in providing an ethical framework for professional practice. The workshop was organized by the Ukrainian Library Association in partnership with Dnipropetrovs’k Library Association, Dnipropetrovs’k Regional Library, the U.S. Embassy and Bibliomist program.

IFLA Releases Background Paper on e-Lending
As part of its work on the 2011-2012 Key Initiatives, the IFLA Governing Board appointed a working group to draft a background paper on digital lending. At its April meeting the IFLA Governing Board endorsed this paper, and we are now pleased to present a version for download.

BSLA Argentina workshop reports in English and Spanish
BSLA workshop in Argentina, April 21, 23-24 2012
ABGRA presented results from their member and non member survey. On April 23-24, the workshop continued in an atmosphere of active participation.
From the invited associations, two were absents because their provinces were involved in elections. Nevertheless, two Buenos Aires institutions, one of Juridical librarians and RECIARIA, took part in the workshop. The participation of the Biblioteca del Congreso de la Nación and of the Biblioteca Nacional was very good.

New report from National Diet Library of Japan: The Great East Japan Earthquake and Libraries
The Kansai-kan of the National Diet Library of Japan annually carries out research projects on library and information science. This year we conducted a survey on the theme of the Great East Japan Earthquake and libraries, and published the first-ever full-scale research report on the subject. The 350+ page report broadly covers information related to the earthquake occurred on March 11, 2011 and libraries in Japan.

Review meetings share successes, measure the impact of BSLA
A series of review meetings are underway in the six BSLA countries which will complete their projects this year. Since 2010, projects in Botswana, Cameroon, Lebanon, Lithuania, Peru and Ukraine have worked through a series of stakeholder meetings, needs assessments, workshops, mentoring, and other activities. During the review meetings, associations are sharing how the situation in their country has changed in the past two years, and what difference the BSLA programme has made.
