The application deadline for the 2013 Jay Jordan IFLA/OCLC Early Career Development Fellowship Program is 17 February 2012.
This program–jointly sponsored by the American Theological Library Association, IFLA and OCLC–provides early career development and continuing education for library and information science professionals from countries with developing economies.
Environmental Sustainability and Libraries SIG getting ready for activities in Helsinki 2012!
The SIG has been granted slots for an Open Session (with the privilege of simultaneous interpretation) and a Business Meeting at IFLA WLIC 2012. Thanks to the generosity of the Helsinki library system, there also wil be an off-site event at one of the Public Libraries, providing the opportunity to work on some of the SIG's objectives (format and additional information forthcoming).
Out Now: a New FAIFE Spotlight on the Dismissal of the National Librarian of Serbia
The director of the National Library of Serbia, writer and philosopher Sreten Ugricić was dismissed urgently on the 20th of January 2012 at the so-called "telephone meeting" of the Government of Serbia.
IFLA Section blogs more visible
Blogs written by the IFLA sections using the IFLA WordPress software are collected on a blogs home page and now have an aggregated overview showing the 50 most recent posts. The recent posts overview is also available as an RSS feed meaning you can subscribe to receive it via your own news aggregator. The overview gives a nice idea of what's going on in these sections.
Gone are the days of modest electronic journals! CALL FOR PAPERS
Serials are evolving quickly and now contain linked data, visualizations, actionable QR codes, streaming media and other multimedia assets. They are delivered to end users via traditional digital platforms, and also via apps and mobile devices. Are libraries ready? How are serials librarians embracing these new technologies?

LTR session in Puerto Rico, 2011
If you missed the annual conference in Puerto Rico or if you want to see other papers to prepare your answer to the call of paper for 2012, see the papers presented last summer.
The 95th session of the last annual Conference was about : Data collections in the service of libraries. The session was organized by the LTR section and Statistics and Evaluation section.
Call for papers: National Libraries Section at IFLA – 2012 (Helsinki)
In line with the 2012 IFLA conference theme “Libraries Now! - Inspiring, Surprising, Empowering”, the National Libraries Section is seeking papers on the topic: National libraries and open data: new discovery and access services. A two-hour session will investigate how and where national libraries’ activities in the field of open access may inspire re-use of bibliographic and other data in innovative and exciting ways.
2012 RFID SURVEY
For the last four years Mick Fortune, consultant and blogger at RFID: Changing Libraries for Good, has been running an annual survey of UK libraries’ use of RFID. Last year’s survey yielded the largest response so far with a total of 122 UK library authorities completing the questionnaire.

New IFLA Membership category: Non-Salaried Affiliate
IFLA is happy to share a new way for retired professionals—or those in between jobs—to join or continue as IFLA affiliates at a special rate. The category of Non-Salaried Affiliate is open for individuals who are not currently in paid employment and do not expect to be within the next three months. Non-Salaried Affiliates is set in the group of Individual Affiliates within IFLA Membership. The 2012 fee for this category is EUR 59.
